Jay Stempin Bio:

LIFE IS ABOUT BALANCE. To stay balanced and centered, I have been practicing T’ai Chi Ch’uan since 1998. I am a licensed T’ai Chi Ch’uan instructor, earning my certification through TAI CHI HEALTHWAYS AND ASSOCIATES of San Diego, CA under the leadership of Sifu Jesse Tsao, Ph.D. I first learned Cheng Man-Ch’ing’s Yang-style under the tutelage of Sifu Morgan Halperin in Nevada City, California. Several years later I switched to the Tso style under Sifu Kevin Grissom in Wisconsin. T’ai Chi’s been a daily part of my life and I look forward to sharing this ancient internal art with students in need of developing core strength, flexibility, positivity, and gaining a sense of identity, inner strength, peace, balance, and coordination.  Prior to this, for twenty years, I worked as a special education teacher, assisting special needs’ populations in California, Wisconsin, and North Carolina.  It’s been rewarding—and humbling, mind you—to assist students to develop a sense of self-worth, educate themselves, and develop post-secondary education plans as a case manager.  Today, new doorways have opened and I now teach T’ai chi in some of North Carolina’s coastal communities. I am also a certified Reiki Master, another wonderful Eastern healing art modality. Meditation is a daily staple in my life, as well. I have also worked as a freelance writer, having published numerous press releases and feature stories. To keep my creative writing drive alive and ticking—I am impassioned about creative writing—I am near completion of a young-adult fantasy fiction manuscript.
